Introduction and Aim

Fresh Kit London is an On-Demand Dry Cleaning platform, operating from several corporate buildings in the City of London serviced from 3 different Cleaning factories across London – Kensington (W8), Bermondsey (SE1) & Walworth (SE5).

We provide dry cleaning and laundry services to the tenants at our clients buildings and to the general public via our Holborn EC1N store. We recognise that our operations result in emissions to air and water, and the generation of waste. It is our aim to comply with legislation and other requirements, continue to reduce the environmental impacts of our business and operate in an environmentally responsible manner.

It is our aim to be as Environmentally Friendly as possible and as such, we are heavily investing in changes to make us and our partners eco-friendlier and reduce our carbon footprint.

This policy describes how we will achieve our aim.

Responsibility

This environmental policy applies to all of our operations including management, operators and procurement. Fresh Kit London is responsible for ensuring that the policy is implemented. However, all employees have a responsibility in their area to ensure that the aims and objectives of the policy are met.

Resources

We will ensure that resources are available to enable us to achieve our objectives and targets. We are currently in the process of securing funding to further invest in the completion of the objectives below.

We currently ensure that all our laundry partner facilities comply with all regulation in regard to the use, storage and disposal of all materials and chemicals. We ensure we comply with each local council’s dry-cleaning permit regulations and use authorised hazardous waste handlers.

Objectives

During 2019, we have implemented:

  • reduce energy and water consumption, mainly through the use of employee awareness and training

  • introduction of Electrolux Wet Cleaning System, which is approved by Woolmark and does not use solvent-based cleaners. This means that the water used ends up harmless, and is heated on demand which reduces energy usage. Steam resulting from this process is used in other parts of the cleaning process. All settings clean at much lower temperatures than with dry cleaning.

  • reduce materials and chemicals consumption, mainly through the use of employee awareness and training

  • reduce our environmental impacts through changes in our supply chain

  • introduce reusable nylon drop off bags, provided free of charge to all our customers

  • encourage customers to have each order delivered within one plastic bag

  • work in partnership with our environmentally aware clients and encourage our customers to return hangers and packaging for recycling.

During 2020, we aim to:

  • introduce water filtration systems, recycling the water we use,

  • continue with additional roll out of Electrolux Wet Cleaning System machines across all sites

  • sourcing 100% biodegradable plastics to use in our packaging

  • upgrade our logistics to all Electric Vehicle Fleet

  • continue investing in R&D and promoting Environmentally friendly practices in the industry

Targets

To achieve our aims, we have set ourselves the following targets:

  • inform all customers and suppliers about our environmental policy by December 2019 and, thereafter, all new customers and suppliers

  • define good housekeeping for materials and solvent usage, ensure all employees receive training in good housekeeping and incorporate this training into the induction programme for new starters – COMPLETED.

  • ensure all employees are trained in procedures to reduce energy and water consumption - plant usage and incorporate this training into the induction programme for new starters – COMPLETED.

  • review both our first-tier supply chain and the products we purchase with the aim of making progressive changes in terms of our environmental impacts. Review to be completed by March 2020.

  • raise the investment for the technology requirements set out in in our 2020 objectives by December 2019.

Monitoring and Auditing

Progress against these objectives will be monitored through monthly management consultations.
